May 1: Newton Baroque debuts in new recital hall at UMass Boston!

UMass Boston has a brand new Performing Arts facility in University Hall, and flutist Mary Oleskiewicz brings Newton Baroque to its stage with a concert of Baroque Favorites for Voice and Flute on May 1 at 7:30pm. Tickets and more info!

She and two brilliant Boston sopranos, Jessica Cooper and Sierra Marcy, will be performing selections from Bach’s Coffee Cantata,  Monteverdi’s Scherzi musicali,  and other favorites, and especially Vivaldi’s delicious cantata All’ombra di sospetto. Andrus Madsen, harpsichord, Douglas Kelley, viola da gamba, will join her for gorgeous trio sonatas by Telemann, in honor of the composer’s 2017 jubilaeum. Mary will also treat the audience to a couple of Telemann’s fantasies, the littlest, most precious jewels of the Baroque, small perhaps, but so powerful they were used during the 18th-century by Quantz and his students as virtuoso “dueling” weapons!

Parking on the UMass campus is a little tricky due to construction, so plan to arrive early. Driving? Park in Lot D. Or take the Redline to JFK station, and jump on the free shuttle to the campus center. The Recital Hall is in the new University Hall next to the Campus Center.
